Oil boilers

We install, service and maintain all makes of oil boilers.

Careful and regular maintenance keeps a boiler burning efficiently and prolongs its useful life. When we service a boiler, we restore it to the settings specified by the manufacturer, so that it runs as efficiently and cleanly as possible.

A modern oil boiler is extremely efficient and clean-burning, giving you around 94% of the energy available in the fuel being burnt. By contrast, a 20-year old boiler will be at best around 80% efficient, maybe quite a lot less if it’s in poor condition. That makes installing a replacement boiler a big step towards energy-efficiency and it’s normally the least costly option. Good-quality boilers are reliable and straightforward to maintain. Please do call us if you’d like to discuss a new boiler.

For a traditionally built house with radiators, an oil boiler will provide the flow temperature that’s needed for comfort when it’s very cold.

Oil tanks

Hand in hand with maintaining your oil boiler, ensuring your oil tank is healthy is just as important. Over time, tanks and oil lines can deteriorate and begin to leak into the ground. This can potentially cause environmental damage that could affect surrounding soil, groundwater or surface water.

If you notice a leak, or a strong smell of oil, call us and we will come and inspect the oil tank and line for you.

Replacing oil tanks and oil lines requires careful consideration. We will provide recommendations as to where to place them based on the current safety regulations. There are other factors to think about too. Moving it to somewhere that is more pleasing to the eye may mean it is not accessible for fuel deliveries, for example.

We can maintain your oil supply whilst work is underway, by pumping oil out of the old tank into containers and setting up a temporary line until the new tank is sited. We only install bunded (double skinned) tanks for extra safety.

High-efficiency installations and combining heat-sources

There is a way to get even greater efficiency from your heating system which is by adding a blending valve to adapt the flow temperature to reflect the temperature outside. It’s best to add a buffer tank as well, between the boiler and the heating system, so that the boiler always runs at its most efficient. We install a second blending valve to protect the boiler. This type of arrangment can make a significant difference to the fuel consumption, without sacrificing your creature comforts.

If you want to combine an oil boiler with a back boiler in a wood-burner, or to store solar energy for use in the heating and hot water system – talk to us about using a buffer tank or a heat-store. We’ve designed and installed many systems which have greatly improved efficiency.
